Unlike 2008's <b><i>In Rainbows</i></b> name your own price plus credit card transaction fee, this album is sold at USD $9 for 320kbps MP3 or $14 for uncompressed CD Quality Wave files.<br />
<br />
At first listen, this album sounds like a Trance Ambient adventures with-in the bands inner mindspace with nods to Dubstep. This is some of the shit that I am totally into these days. Having said that, I am not overly giddy to fork over cash for the album right away but I will give it a few more listens. I like to lull things over but I am attached to <i>Lotus Flower</i>. Radiohead posted their Official Video on their <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/radiohead?ref=memojuez" target="_blank">YouTube Channel</a> at the <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1358318/New-Radiohead-album-The-King-Of-Limbs-Industry-rebels-shun-record-labels.html#ixzz1EW5jV31A?ref=memojuez.blogspot" target="_blank">same time as the album</a> was released.<br />
<br />
<iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/cfOa1a8hYP8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe><br />
<br />
It's good, but nothing to get overly excited about. It would be good in a multi-sub-genre "Dance, Dance, Dance Mixtape" for sure. I support Independent, RIAA-free music and I like what I hear to some degree but I'm still not completely sold.<br />
<br />
Most Radiohead fans would strongly disagree with me. They are <a href="http://validatethis.com/2011/02/the-king-of-limbs-review-on-first-and-fifth-listen?ref=memo-cited-you" target="_blank">shocked and awed</a> in Radiohead's latest direction even though it's not what they wanted nor expected to soothe their fanatical worship.<br />
<br />
You can decide for yourself read <a href="http://validatethis.com/2011/02/the-king-of-limbs-review-on-first-and-fifth-listen?ref=memo-cited-you-again" target="_blank">the fanboy track by track review</a> while listening to the entire album.<br />

If you've followed some of my musical postings for the <a href="http://sadclownrep.com/?tag=radiohead" target="_blank">Sad Clown iPOD project</a>, you would know that I've always liked Radiohead songs when they were <a href="http://sadclownrep.com/?p=980#comment-4915" target="_blank">performed by someone else</a>. If you are like me in that regards, or if you like All Things Radiohead, including Really Cool Covers and Tributes, then you have to check out 2010's <b><i>Amanda Palmer Performs The Popular Hits Of Radiohead On Her Magical Ukulele</i></b>.<br />
<br />
Yes that is the same Amanda Fucking Palmer from the Dresden Dolls. The Seven Song album is available <i>in your choice of 320k mp3, FLAC, or just about any other format you could possibly desire</i>. It's a Name Your won price deal, but has a $0.99 minimum price to cover royalties for Radiohead and the Credit Card Transaction fee. <br />
<br />
It's available at <a href="http://music.amandapalmer.net/album/amanda-palmer-performs-the-popular-hits-of-radiohead-on-her-magical-ukulele?ref=memojuez.blogspot" target="_blank">Amanda Palmer's Bandcamp Store</a> and you can preview it in its entirety below. I admit, in Track Five Palmer sounds quite rough, but it was recorded live while she was hungover during a sound check. Otherwise, It's a pretty solid tribute that only Amanda Fucking Palmer could deliver.Memo Juezhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05522121921230602273noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1779252928436505699.post-80147969417836315522010-12-23T20:17:00.015-05:002010-12-24T16:42:55.012-05:00Is J-Metal Primed for a US Invasion?As any well versed American Metalhead would know, Japanese Metal begins and ends with X Japan. Well, that may have been true back in the Late 80s and Early 90s when Metal first caught fire then steadily blazed red hot in Japan, but it has grown and evolved much since then. <a href="http://sadclownrep.com/?p=3760" target="_blank">I was aware of the changes</a> but not to what degree until recently when Harajuku Culture Authority, La Carmina, <a href="http://www.lacarmina.com/blog/2010/11/harajuku-punk-leopard-fashion-listen-flavor-cat-sweater-animal-print-leggings-big-eyes-japanese-makeup-techniques/" target="_blank">introduced me</a> to the sights and sounds of 凛 [Lin] -The End of Corruption World- through their Promotional Video for <span style="font-style:italic;">Metamorphose</span>.<br /><br />I was immediately sucked in by their Progressive Metal sound that infused Nordic Symphonic Metal and J-Pop vocals into the mix. Assembled by Japan's renowned Visual Kei songwriter and bassist, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kisaki" target="_blank">Kisaki</a>, they are delivering tones that would be at home in most Western ears. <br /><br />But in a country where even the most popular Latin/German/French Bands are overlooked until they release an English single, is that enough? For our answer, we need to look no further then the popularity of Rammstein in the US. They prove that you can still rock the Metal World and sing in your native tongue. <br /><br /><B><I>Metamorphose</i></B> by LIN<br /><br /><object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/488Hl9XoAkM?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/488Hl9XoAkM?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object><br /><br /><br />More recently in <a href="http://www.cnngo.com/tokyo/life/japanese-metal-243426" target="_blank">an article published in CNN-GO</a>, La Carmina observed the resurgence of Metal with-in Japan and how it is priming to expand into other Metal-loving countries. The aural multi-genre fusions from these acts are breathing new life into the Metal Scene. It also mirrors similar musical experimentation that is happening in Europe. Add in the X Japan inspired the Visual Kei & Lolita fashions (think Glam Metal in Victorian clothing) and you have a interesting live show to double your entertainment. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.bloodstainchild.com/" target="_blank">Blood Stain Child</a> blends Trance, Electronica, Melodic Death Metal and Industrial Metal to deliver their own hybrid sound.<br /><br /><B><I>Freedom</I></B> by Blood Stained Child<br /><br /><object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2oi-8xl7uZs?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2oi-8xl7uZs?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object><br /><br />While on the subject of Death Metal, have you ever seen a Death Metal band that was so beautiful you were instantly infatuated. The sole track they released to us was <i>Are You Ready to Live</i>. <br /><br />After downloading, I gave it a it listen. It's a combination of driving guitar parts and reflective, almost emo parts. It's not clear whether the music sounds like it has direction, goal and purpose to reflect the lyrics or if the band is just lost in the direction they really want to go.<br /><br />The chorus is very problematic for me. The vocal performance and musical arrangement sounds like a cross between <I>Freak on A Leash</i> and <I>Falling Away from Me</i>. The lyrics sounds like a new twist on an old song.<br /><br /><blockquote>My mind plays tricks on me,<br />I can't control it you see,<br />I'm barely beating down,<br />The pain go round me.<br /><br />My mind plays tricks on me,<br />It's unbelievable to see,<br />I always destined to shit, <br />Around me.</blockquote><br /><br />If this song was released early to generate buzz around the highly anticipated new album available 13 July 2010 then one of two things are obvious. <br /><br />1. Roadrunner Records picked the wrong song to feed the faithful<br /><br />or<br /><br />2. This album will be a total "Heard it before" let down.<br /><br />I am hoping that the former is the case.<br /><br />Here is the song as leaked on YouTube<br /><br /><object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/M4rhdbNSgng&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/M4rhdbNSgng&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>Memo Juezhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05522121921230602273noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1779252928436505699.post-40543523243044274982010-04-18T11:01:00.006-04:002011-02-21T14:38:07.951-05:00Ratt Returns from ObscurityOne of the 1980's loved Hair Bands, Ratt, has returned after being out of the limelight for over 20 years, Ratt began putting their band together and solidified the current lineup (Featuring Vocalist Stephen Pearcy, Lead Guitarist Warren DiMartini and drummer Bobby Blotzer from the original line-up and Guitarist Carlos Cavazo and Bassist Robbie Crane) in late 2008.<br />
<br />
With renewed passion and a record deal with Roadrunner Records, they have crafted a brand new album that still maintains that immediately recognizable "Ratt Sound" with out sounding dated.<br />
<br />
It hits the stores 20 April, but you can hear it now!<br />

I am not referring to the obvious plagiarizing of the famous <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_and_Roll_(Gary_Glitter_song)" target="_blank">Glitter Beat</a>, but the treble line.<br /><br />As luck would have it, while doing research for what seemed at first, a completely unrelated song post for <a href="http://sadclownrep.com/" target="_blank">Teatro Triste del Clown</a>, I was enlightened.<br /><br />I am quasi active in writing for what is coined "<a href="http://sadclownrep.com/?cat=26" target="_blank">The Sad Clown iPod Project</a>" where multiple authors write about every song on their <a href="http://sadclownrep.com/?cat=28" target="_blank">iPod/MP3 player</a>. The post I was working on was the immensely popular 1988 novelty song (at least in the UK) called <a href="http://sadclownrep.com/?p=3565" target={_blank"><span style="font-style:italic;">Doctorin' the Tardis</span> by the Timelords</a> (BKA - Kopyright Liberation Front or just The KLF.) The song samples [also] samples that famous Glitter Beat intertwined with the <span style="font-style:italic;">The Doctor Who Theme</span>.<br /><br />One of the rules for this project is to include a video or audio either by embed or link. After embedding the "Official Video" in my post, I also found an "MP3 over Album Cover" video on YouTube for the Extended Dance Club 12" single. I happily included it in my post. At the end of the Video was a link for "Muse -vs- The Timelords," a GenErik <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjJRZafALsk&ref=memojuez" target="_blank">mash-up posted by ErikVeland</a>.<br /><br />In his info blurb, Erik writes:<blockquote> Thought Muse got some inspiration from Dr. Who on their single Uprising? So did I. This remix was done the same day the track was leaked.<br /><br />Muse's new track Uprising together at last with its definite inspiration Doctorin' The Tardis by The Timelords (a.k.a. KLF). Mashup by <a href="http://generik.tumblr.com/" target="_blank">GenErik</a> </blockquote> <br /><br />Going back and listening to Uprising, it is now obvious that the arrangement is the slowed down central arrangement for <span style="font-style:italic;">The Doctor Who Theme</span> (the part between the intro and outro.)<br /><br />As they say "The proof is in the pudding" or "Hearing is believing"<br /><br />Here is one example of the theme (1980-1985 Version)<br /><br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/g4On0uLqH_I&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/g4On0uLqH_I&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><br /><br />That Glitter Beat, 1972's <span style="font-style:italic;">Rock and Roll</span> by Gary Gliiter<br /><br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/BIsbD0l_bEg&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/BIsbD0l_bEg&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><br /><br />1988's <span style="font-style:italic;">Doctorin' the Tardis</span> by the Timelords (KLF)<br /><br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bdTELokKfCk&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bdTELokKfCk&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><br /><br />2009's <span style="font-style:italic;">Uprising</span> by Muse<br /><br /><object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/w8KQmps-Sog&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/w8KQmps-Sog&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object><br /><br />2009's <span style="font-style:italic;">Muse vs The Timelords (KLF) - Doctorin' The Uprising (GenErik Retardis Mashup) [Dr. Who Yeah]</span> by GenErik<br /><br /><object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZjJRZafALsk&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZjJRZafALsk&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>Memo Juezhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05522121921230602273noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1779252928436505699.post-20677902161579001872010-02-07T19:38:00.006-05:002010-02-07T20:49:49.888-05:00Franco-Celtic Bluegrass with a Pinch of GospelOne of my Recipe Journal followers had a post in her journal about the music scene in St. Boniface, Manitoba which led to discussion between us about traditional folk/bluegrass music. The drawbacks of the "purist" approach versus the rooted approach. She recommended several bands from the greater Winnipeg, Manitoba area that were rooted in the Franco-Manitoban Folk tradition. They were <a href="http://www.myspace.com/theduhks" target="_blank">The Duhks</a>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/genticorum" target="_blank">Genticorum</a>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/leschauffeurs" target="_blank">Les Chauffeurs À Pieds</a>, and <a href="http://www.myspace.com/vishten">Vishtèn</a>.<br /><br />After listening to a couple of songs from each from Lala, et al, I immediately took a liking to Vishtèn. I followed up each some more at MySpace Music, but I found only one on ReverbNation. <br /><br />Listening to more music from that one band at ReverbNation drew the fanboy out of me. Then their live cover of Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" started to play. As the song continued to stimulate my musical sensibility, I came to the realization that not only did they own that song, they pwned me too.<br /><br />The band I speak of is The Duhks (pronounced like "ducks.") <br /><br />Two of the members from this quintet are from St. Boniface and they bring with them the strong and pure musical traditions of that region that this Juno Award Winning and Grammy Nominated group as a whole draws upon to produce their unique Folk/Rock/Celtic/Ole Timey/Bluegrass/Gospel sound.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.myspace.com/theduhks" target="_blank">My Space</a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.facebook.com/theduhks?ref=sgm" target="_blank">Facebook</a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.reverbnation.com/theduhks" target="_blank">ReverbNation</a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.duhks.com/?ref=musicality" target="_blank">Website</a><br /><br />Note: The post production separation of sound on "Whole Lotta Love" sounds better on your speakers than on the headphones.<br /><br /><br /><img style="visibility:hidden;width:0px;height:0px;" border=0 width=0 height=0 src="http://counters.gigya.com/wildfire/IMP/CXNID=2000002.0NXC/bT*xJmx*PTEyNjU1OTE5MzkxNTYmcHQ9MTI2NTU5MTk2NzYwOSZwPTI3MDgxJmQ9bXVzaWNfcGxheWVyX2ZpcnN*X2dlbiZnPTEm/bz1hMDE2ODAyMGU2YmU*ODJlYjFhZTYwMGFjNDJjMGI*MCZvZj*w.gif" /><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://cache.reverbnation.com/widgets/swf/15/widgetPlayer.swf?emailPlaylist=artist_34159&backgroundcolor=EEEEEE&font_color=000000&posted_by=fan_333258&shuffle=&autoPlay=false" height="228" width="434"></embed><br/><a href="http://www.reverbnation.com/sitebuilder" onclick="javascript:window.location.href="http://www.reverbnation.com/c./a4/15/34159/Artist/333258/Fan/link"; return false;"><img alt="Band website builders" border="0" height="19" src="http://cache.reverbnation.com/widgets/content/15/footer.png" width="434" /></a><br/><img style="visibility:hidden;width:0px;height:0px;" border=0 width=0 height=0 src="http://www.reverbnation.com/widgets/trk/15/artist_34159/fan_333258/t.gif"/><a href="http://www.quantcast.com/p-05---xoNhTXVc" target="_blank"><img src="http://pixel.quantserve.com/pixel/p-05---xoNhTXVc.gif" style="display: none" border="0" height="1" width="1" alt="Quantcast"/></a>Memo Juezhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05522121921230602273noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1779252928436505699.post-66159063592366878522009-12-12T12:51:00.001-05:002009-12-12T12:54:30.247-05:00Candy Coated Horror Rock<img style="visibility:hidden;width:0px;height:0px;" border=0 width=0 height=0 src="http://counters.gigya.com/wildfire/IMP/CXNID=2000002.11NXC/bT*xJmx*PTEyNjA2NDA*MDk4NzUmcHQ9MTI2MDY*MDQxMjg1OSZwPTI3MDgxJmQ9dHVuZVdpZGdldF9maXJzdF9nZW4mZz*xJm9mPTA=.gif" /><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://cache.reverbnation.com/widgets/swf/19/tuneWidget.swf?twID=artist_380139&posted_by=MissionsAgent_32908_17547556&shuffle=&autoPlay=false&blogBuzz=buzz" height="415" width="434"/><br/><a href="http://www.reverbnation.com/sitebuilder" onclick="javascript:window.location.href="http://www.reverbnation.com/c./a14/19/380139/Artist/333258/Fan/MissionsAgent_32908_17547556/link"; return false;"><img alt="Band website hosting" border="0" height="19" src="http://cache.reverbnation.com/widgets/content/19/footer.png" width="434" /></a><img style="visibility:hidden;width:0px;height:0px;" border=0 width=0 height=0 src="http://www.reverbnation.com/widgets/trk/19/artist_380139/MissionsAgent_32908_17547556/t.gif"/><a href="http://www.quantcast.com/p-05---xoNhTXVc" target="_blank"><img src="http://pixel.quantserve.com/pixel/p-05---xoNhTXVc.gif" style="display: none" border="0" height="1" width="1" alt="Quantcast"/></a></embed>Memo Juezhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05522121921230602273noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1779252928436505699.post-4301195195146550232009-09-05T19:06:00.032-04:002009-09-06T19:46:16.633-04:00OT3P Owns the StageSeveral weeks ago I ran into a friend whose day-job used to be at a Café that I frequent. The Foglifter Café is where I actually met him. We hit it off because we were both musicians that were into metal. He's actually the growling front man for "Condemn The Infection" out of Flagler Co, FL.<br /><br />On this particular day, he was selling tickets for an upcoming show that his band was trying to be one of the three local acts that would open for a Major Act. That Major Act just happened to be OTEP, who was touring in support of their just Released <span style="font-weight:bold;"><span style="font-style:italic;">Smash the Control Machine</span></span>. Needless to say, I bought four tickets for the the show being held at <a href="http://www.myspace.com/brewsterspit" target="_blank">Brewster's Pit</a> in Jacksonville, FL.<br /><br />We positioned ourselves right upfront Stage Right.<br /><br />Opening the show was my friend's band, <span style="font-weight:bold;">Condemn The Infection</span>. Like the other two local bands that were given the opportunity to open for a Major Act, they were given a real short set. Theirs was a meager 11-15 minutes. They made good use of their time it gave it their all.<br /><br />They were currently with-out a Bass player but didn't let that hamper them whatsoever. Their performance was straight forward hard driving metal that took no prisoners. Their musicianship was extremely tight for such a young band. Once they get a another bass player to fill in the bottom end of their sound, they could be a contender.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.myspace.com/condemntheinfection" target="_blank">MySpace</a> <br /><br /><a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Condemn-the-Infection/27863035208?ref=memojuez" target="_blank">Facebook</a><br /><br />Live Video:<br /><br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/psLDf3b5ix4&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/psLDf3b5ix4&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><br /><br />Next up was Jacksonville's <span style="font-weight:bold;">Tempest Reign</span>. They had an old school metal meets Nü Metal sound. They list Black Sabbath, Pantera, Suicidal Tendencies and Slayer as well as many current bands as influences. Their melodic brutal performance would do those bands proud yet make them say, "Why didn't I think of that..."<br /><br />Front man Joe De Luca was a class act by getting the fans in attendance to shout and cheer for all of the bands performing that night.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.myspace.com/tempestreign" target="_blank">MySpace</a> <br /><br /><a href="http://apps.facebook.com/reverbnation_fb/artist/tempestreign?ref=memojuez" target="_blank">Facebook</a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.reverbnation.com/tempestreign" target="_blank">ReverbNation</a><br /><br />Live Video:<br /><br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Infz5PF4Hyw&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Infz5PF4Hyw&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><br /><br />The last local band to play was an obvious local Jacksonville favorite, <span style="font-weight:bold;">My Own Sin</span>. I actually had heard their music before this concert on ReverbNation where I had added them to my favorites and joined their mailing list.<br /><br />They are a female fronted band from Orange Park, FL, that incorporates keyboards into their musical arsenal. Front woman Danie Ross combines beautiful, ethereal melodic vocals with uncommon screams and growls that punctuate the solid wall of sound from the instrumentalists.<br /><br />They were definitely an aural treat.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.myspace.com/myownsin" target="_blank">MySpace</a> <br /><br /><a href="http://apps.facebook.com/reverbnation_fb/artist/myownsin?ref=memojuez" target="_blank">Facebook</a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.reverbnation.com/myownsin" target="_blank">ReverbNation</a><br /><br />No usable live video. This band hails from Champagne, IL and caught on fire quickly with their old school Thrash and Death Metal sound. This band got the Mosh Pit into high gear. <br /><br />Vocalist/Guitarist, Luke Heppe, was good at working the crowd. He kept telling the crowd to "..show me those horns!" He made eye contact with several of us in front of him and stopped playing the guitar long enough to give us the horns back. He would make this unusual sound in a couple of songs, especially during <span style="font-style:italic;">Of Thine Father's Flesh</span> that could best be described as a growling whistle.<br /><br />Musically speaking, Heppe, Jason Ellett (guitars), Phil Solgard (bass) and Wenis (drums) crank out the music that would make the founders of the genre sit up and take notice.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.myspace.com/sevenyearexistence" target="_blank">MySpace</a> <br /><br /><a href="http://apps.facebook.com/pages/Seven-Year-Existence/21275779099?ref=memojuez" target="_blank">Facebook</a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.reverbnation.com/sevenyearexistence" target="_blank">ReverbNation</a><br /><br />Live Video:<br /><br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/xG1aVq3P6_Y&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xG1aVq3P6_Y&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><br /><br />The fifth band to take the stage was Des Moines, Iowa's <span style="font-weight:bold;">Destrophy</span>. They are more of your traditional Nü Metal band mixing melodic and gutteral vocals. <br /><br />They put on a great show that was perfect for psyching up the audience for the headliners. Near the end of their set they got the crowd to start yelling enough "so she can hear you!"<br /><br /><a href="http://www.myspace.com/destrophy" target="_blank">MySpace</a> <br /><br /><a href="http://apps.facebook.com/pages/Destrophy/126148785127?ref=memojuez" target="_blank">Facebook</a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.reverbnation.com/destrophy" target="_blank">ReverbNation</a><br /><br />Official Video:<br /><br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/RK7KmjCOXBo&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/RK7KmjCOXBo&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><br /><br />Finally, OTEP took the stage. Bassist "Evil" J. McGuire got the show cranking with his mad playing skills to which drummer Moke and guitarist Rob Patterson. Otep "Danger" Shamaya leaped up onto her monitor and grabbed her mike and started in on their first number.<br /><br />Through-out the entire performance, Otep had the now fully packed venue bouncing, fist pumping and shouting "Rise! Rebel! Resist!" Otep commanded a stage presence like none other and had the audience's undivided attention and admiration.<br /><br />The band played likely a finely tuned sports car and Otep's voice was perfect through-out the melodies and fits of guttural growls. Her voice was the truest and purest that I've ever heard when compared to her recordings. What you hear on the record, is what you hear live, only better.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.myspace.com/otep" target="_blank">MySpace</a> <br /><br /><a href="http://www.facebook.com/otepofficial?ref=memojuez" target="_blank">Facebook</a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.reverbnation.com/otep" target="_blank">ReverbNation</a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.otep.com" target="_blank">WebSite</a><br /><br />Official Videos:<br /><br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/acc8HrxzXW0&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/acc8HrxzXW0&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><br /><br /><embed id=VideoPlayback src=http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docid=-3198462092290392956&hl=en&fs=true style=width:400px;height:326px allowFullScreen=true allowScriptAccess=always type=application/x-shockwave-flash> </embed><br /><br />Title track of their new album:<br /><br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/RuOfyA1bh2M&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/RuOfyA1bh2M&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>Memo Juezhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05522121921230602273noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1779252928436505699.post-20198372216384345042009-08-23T17:19:00.012-04:002009-11-27T18:37:33.521-05:00Shakira - She Wolf, NOT!!A week or two ago, Shakira's new video for the her first single, the title track, from her soon to be released album, <span style="font-weight:bold;"><span style="font-style:italic;">She Wolf</span></span>, was debuted on VH1's <U>Top 20 Video Countdown</u>. It was not in the countdown, just aired in the middle of it. In an introductory interview, Shakira said that she tapped into the spirit of the she wolf (la loba) for her "Wolf Cage" performance.<br /><br />There was absolutely nothing wolf-like in any of her performance. The "cage" routine had her in a nude coloured body suit and she slithered and swung around like a novice cage dancer at some seedy go-go joint. The other dancing performances that were intermingled with it in the video were extremely weak, lame and just plain awful. <br /><br />Moving onto her vocals, the verses were like a parody of her usual powerful performances and only occassionally did one hear her unique vocal style come through. When the prechorus started, I kept waiting for her to sing, <span style="font-style:italic;">I want to dance on your disco stick</span>, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9w-NZ4VROD0" target="_blank">a la Lady Gaga</a>. The chorus itself sound more like she was whining the words in a futile attempt to sound ominous.<br /><br />If this lead single is her best forward for her exploration into Electro-pop and Dance Hall, than she may be in trouble. The album was initially going to be packaged with a book of photos taken by David Lynch. But now there's word that the music may never be officially released at all.<br /><br />An unnamed spokesperson for Danger Mouse says that "due to an ongoing dispute with EMI" the book of photographs will "now come with a blank, recordable CD-R. All copies will be clearly labeled: 'For legal reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will.'"</blockquote><br />For that reason alone, one should <a href="http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=104129585&sc=fb&cc=fp&ref=memojuez" target="_blank">give a listen</a>.Memo Juezhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05522121921230602273noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1779252928436505699.post-12449242293793429402008-09-13T15:21:00.000-04:002008-09-13T15:21:53.006-04:00Metal Mania Latest Victim in MTV's Metal HatefestAt 11 AM this morning, I tuned into <a href="http://www.vh1classic.com/browse/video/17273/Metal_Mania/index.jhtml" target="_blank"><B>Metal Mania</B> on VH1 Classic</a>. It's the best source for Classic Metal videos. I actually I should say it <I>was</i>.<br /><br />To my shock and horror, the lead off song was "Something About You" by Level 42. That's not Metal!! It's one of the worst pop songs that the 80s ever produced.<br /><br />"Okay," I thought. "Someone goofed and the next song will be something kicking like AC/DC or Twisted Sister"<br /><br />Wrong! It was "Celebration" by Kool & The Gang. Sure, it's a great song, but I want to Watch METAL videos that's why I tuned into <B>Metal Mania</b> in the first place!!<br /><br />Now I have to complain. <br /><br />I surfed to VH1 Classics and regular VH1 websites and they don't have any links or means to contact them. Imagine that. They don't want to hear from us. Just like their Parent Company, MTV, they want to dictate what we watch and when we will watch even if they have to be misleading.<br /><br />MTV has a long history in campaigning against all things Metal dating back to 1988. This latest stunt has cemented my resolve to boycott and harass this company.<br /><br />I will not stay up to 4 AM trying to find what time slot Headbanger's Ball on MTV2 is on this Saturday night. No great loss, they usually only play videos from a small subgenre niche on a show that's 15% BS and 75% commercials. A third of them for albums by Hip-hop and Rap Stars in an attempt to alienate their audience.<br /><br />Besides YouTube or Google video clips, the last true refuge for Metal Videos is <a href="http://www.metalvideo.com/" target="_blank">MetalVideo.com</a>. That's where I am off to after I click "Publish" on this post.Memo Juezhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05522121921230602273noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1779252928436505699.post-7639567252318346582007-12-22T21:40:00.000-05:002007-12-22T22:01:42.056-05:00Razorblade Fairytales by Hate in the Box<blockquote><I>This review originally appeared in Memo Juez's LiveJournal (RIP). It can still be found at <a href="http://razorbladefairytales.com/reviews.html" target="_blank">Razorblade Fairytales</a></i></blockquote><br /><br />I first heard of Hate in the Box, an up and coming NYC area band, from a concert flyer posted at <a href="http://community.livejournal.com/girlsinbands/" target="_blank">girlsinbands</a> by <a href="http://cyanidebonbon.livejournal.com/" target="_blank">cyanidebonbon</a>. <br /><br />A few mouse clicks later and I am listening to the infectous vocals of Rainbow Blight on a couple of full length Ogg Vorbis downloadable files. I was so impressed I ordered this CD right then and there. <br /><br /><U><B>RazorBlade Fairy Tales</B></U>' first cut, <u>Porcelain</u>, opens with a dark keyboard/synth intro by Optimus Crime shortly joined by an overdriven rhythm guitar. Rainbow Blight soon starts in with <I>When you cry it makes a sound, --like knives on Porcelain</I> in a voice and inflection that makes the listener ask "Is that Gwen Stefani?" Any confusion is quickly eradicated as Blight's powerful and emotionally charged vocals suck you into a world of razorblades that make the tears of dolls run red. <br /><br />Through-out the entire album, the musical arrangement is straightforward and uncomplicated with a nod to the heyday of Industrial Metal of the early nineties with a Gothic Metal flavouring. Optimus Crime is extremely adept with his keyboarding and musical layering production skills that give the likes of Jason Slater (Snake River Conspiracy) a run for his money. <br /><br />Crime's hooks have meat hanging from them. <br /><br />If you are tired of the same old radio friendly garbage pumped daily into your life, then RazorBlade Fairy Tales is a refreshing jaunt out of your watered down musical mediocrity.Memo Juezhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05522121921230602273noreply@blogger.com0
